Wisconsin State Trunk Highway 190

Western Terminus: WIS 16, at a diamond interchange (Exit 187) in Pewaukee

Eastern Terminus: WIS 32, at a signalized intersection in Shorewood

Length: 19.58 miles

Counties: Waukesha, Milwaukee

Routing: Known as Capitol Drive for its entire length, WIS 190 begins its eastward journey at a diamond interchange off of the WIS 16 freeway (Exit 187) in Pewaukee.  Heading out of Pewaukee, WIS 190 crosses WIS 164, then meets WIS 74 at an interchange that marks its Southern Terminus.  Continuing east, WIS 190 passes through the northern part of Brookfield.  Crossing from Waukesha-Milwaukee County Line, WIS 190 enters into Wauwatosa, and intersects the US 45 freeway at a volleyball interchange.  After passing WIS 100, the highway makes its way into Milwaukee, and traverses the northern portion of Wisconsin's largest city, intersecting WIS 181, US 41 and WIS 145 along the way.  Following a brief duplex with WIS 57, WIS 190 meets I-43, then makes its way east, exiting Milwaukee and entering the quaint lakeside community of Shorewood after crossing the Milwaukee River.  WIS 190 comes to an end here at its intersection with WIS 32, right along the western shore of Lake Michigan.

JCT WIS 190 shield on CTH-SR North in advance of its northern endpoint at WIS 190/Capitol Dr. in Brookfield.  This shield features the text "WIS" within the WIS 190 shield.  It is common for this type of state highway shield with "WIS" text to appear on JCT assemblies along county trunk highways where they intersect state highways.

US 190 is nowhere near Wisconsin...it exists in Texas and Louisiana...but this JCT US 190 shield assembly that appears on CTH-Y North in Brookfield would suggest otherwise.  This sign gaff appears prior to the northern end of CTH-Y at WIS 190/Capitol Dr.

TO US 45 trailblazer, mounted to light pole on WIS 190/Capitol Dr. West just west of the WIS 100/Mayfair Rd. intersection.  The rarely-utilized volleyball interchange design is used at the interchange that connects US 45 and WIS 190, which can be seen in the background, about 0.5 mile from this location.   At that three-level interchange, WIS 190 uses the bottom level, the US 45 freeway uses the top level, and the service drives of both highways meet in the middle level.
