U.S. Highway 10 (Wisconsin)

Western Entrance: Minnesota State Line, via the St. Croix River bridge in Prescott

Eastern Entance: Via the S.S. Badger car ferry across Lake Michigan from Ludington, Michigan, at the docks in Manitowoc

Length: 293.19 miles

Counties: Pierce, Pepin, Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson, Eau Claire, Clark, Wood, Portage, Waupaca, Winnebago, Calumet, Manitowoc

Routing: US 10 enters into Wisconsin from Minnesota via a bridge across the St. Croix River at Prescott.  The highway heads easterly through Pierce County, duplexing briefly with US 63 through Ellsworth before heading southeasterly into northern Pepin County.  US 10 trends easterly through that county, then passes through northeastern Buffalo and northern Trempealeau Counties.  After briefly multiplexing with US 53 into Osseo, US 10 crosses I-94, then enters northern Jackson County, where it briefly forms a triplex with US 12 and WIS 27 along the Jackson-Eau Claire County Line and into Clark County.  US 10 continues eastward, passing through Neillsville, and then stair-stepping northerly and easterly into Wood County.  Following a briefly duplex north with WIS 13, US 10 resumes an easterly trek to Auburndale, then heads east-southeasterly into Stevens Point.  After intersecting I-39/US 51, US 10 goes southeasterly as a mix of two- and four-lane highway past Amherst Junction and Amherst, en route into the Waupaca vicinity,  As an expressway, US 10 heads easterly to Weyauwega, then turns south, joined briefly by WIS 49 and WIS 110, to Fremont.  At that point, US 10 becomes a full-fledged freeway, and is joined briefly by US 45 en route to intersecting the US 41 freeway in the Appleton vicinity.  US 10 follows WIS 441 from US 41 to the Oneida St. interchange, then heads south to meet WIS 114.  After a brief duplex heading easterly with WIS 114, US 10 passes through northern Calumet County, and goes into Manitowoc County.  At I-43, US 10 joins the Interstate heading south, then proceeds east along WIS 42 into Manitowoc.  US 10 splits from WIS 42, and follows a one-way couplet of streets past US 151's Northern Terminus, and then easterly to the ferry docks of the S.S. Badger, a car ferry that takes motorists following US 10 across Lake Michigan to Ludington, Michigan.

This shield assembly appears along US 10 West about 4 blocks after the ferry docks, at the location where it turns from WB Madison St. onto NB 8th St., and forming the start of a stretch through WIS 42 where US 10 runs along a pair of one-way streets.  US 10 meets US 151 and BUS WIS 42 approximately 4 blocks to the north of here, while it goes on to meet US 10 northwest of town.  The I-43 shield on this assembly has been here for quite a while, not just in the fading of the shield, but also in that the shield has the text "Wisconsin" in it, something which newer Interstate shields in the Badger State have not included for a number of years now.
