Interstate 794 (Wisconsin)

Western
Terminus: I-43/I-94/US 41, at the Marquette interchange on the fringes of downtown Milwaukee

Eastern Terminus: WIS 794 transition at the Carferry Dr. interchange in the southeastern portion of Milwaukee

Length: 3.75 miles

County: Milwaukee

Routing: I-794 is a spur freeway that is situated predominantly along the Lake Michigan shore line, and connects downtown Milwaukee with its southern suburbs.  The Interstate, which has the rare distinction of being elevated for its entire length, begins at the Marquette Interchange, where it meets I-43, I-94 and US 41.  Departing the recently reconstructed stack interchange, I-794 heads eastward, abutting the south side of downtown Milwaukee.  At the Lincoln Memorial Dr. interchange, I-794 turns southward, and follows the Lake Freeway as it crosses the Hoan Bridge, which carries a six-lane stretch of the freeway across the Milwaukee River inlet.  I-794 arrives at the Carferry Dr. (Port of Milwaukee) interchange, where it comes to an end, and transitions into WIS 794, the Lake Pkwy., which travels into the nearby southern suburbs of Milwaukee.

Overhead guide sign on I-794 West in advance of the main span of the Hoan Bridge denoting that through traffic bound for the Marquette Interchange and respective connections to I-43, I-94 and US 41 will need to filter into the left 2 lanes, since the right lane will depart at the Michigan St. interchange 1 mile ahead.  Note that the sign truss to which this sign is attached spans the entire width of I-794, and is the northernmost (or westernmost, as I-794 is signed) of three full-width sign trusses that stand along I-794 between the Hoan Bridge main span and the Port of Milwaukee interchange.
