Autoroute 30

Western Terminus: R-132 south of Salaberry-de-Valleyvfield.

Eastern Terminus: R-132 just west of Becanour

Regions: MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry, MRC de Roussillon, MRC de L'Ajemmerais,

Routing: A-30 has a very conveluted routing.  As it currently stands the freeway is broken up into several distinct segments.  The western-most segment is a by-pass of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.  The second westerly segment is a short freeway between Chateauguay and Sainte-Catherine.  The third segment is by far the longest, running from Candiac to Sorel-Tracey.  The fourth segment is a tiny orphaned freeway that heads a short distance east from A-55 to, R-132 near Becancour.

A-30 ends at a signalized intersection with Chemin Larocque.  R-132 and 201 continue westerly past this intersection across an elegant truss bridge that crosses the Beauharnois Ship Canal.

View looking westerly in the Winter towards the Boul. des Erables intersection.  The Autoroute is four-way stop controlled at this intersection.  One wouldn't encounter a four-way stop on an interstate or 400-series highway.

View looking easterly along A-30 from the Boul. des Erables intersection.  This section of A-30 is to be by-passed with a new highway that likes the south shore to A-20 and A-40.  This section of Autoroute is to be redesigated A-530.

The Western-most segment of A-30 ends at the Boul. Pie-XII intersection in Salaberry-De-Valleyfield.  A-30 resumes at Route 138 in Chateauguay

View looking easterly along A-30 from the Route 138 intersection.  All through traffic along A-20 and A-15 must navigate this tight loop ramp.  Considering these are both long distance principal though routes both leading through the heart of Montreal, it is no wonder the MTQ has been so aggressive to finish the South Shore Bypass (A-30).

Advanced exit signage in Quebec is sometimes placed ridiculously close to the actual exit signage.  In this case there is less than 300m between the advanced signage and the exit signage.  At 120km/h, a vehicle traverses 300m in 15 seconds.

Signage for exit 107, and advising traffic of the upcoming A-10 interchange.  I know I have mentioned this in other commentaries, but it is interesting that MTQ chooses not to use the word 'Vers' to denote a trailblazer.  Exit 109 is only A-10, not A-10/15 and Interstate 89.
