Western Terminus: At Confederation bridge. The Trans-Canada Highway continues into New Brunswick as New Brunswick Trans-Canada Highway 16. Eastern Terminus: Wood Islands Ferry Terminal, just south of Route 4 junction. The Highway continues south of the Ferry as Nova Scotia Trans-Canada Highway 106 Length: 111km Counties: Prince, Queens Routing: PEI Trans-Canada Highway 1 enters the province at the Confederation bridge, located about halfway between Summerside and Charlottetown. The highway proceeds east roughly following the coast of Northumberland Straight. Through Charlottetown, the highway becomes the city's main street. East of Charlottetown, Route 1 continues through Stratford, before turning southerly, again following the Northumberland Straight shoreline. It follows the shoreline until meeting Route 4, where the highway jumps across the Wood Islands, terminating at the Wood Islands Ferry Terminal. A trip across the Wood Islands Ferry will land travelers in Caribou, Nova Scotia on Nova Scotia Trans-Canada Highway 106. |
