U.S. Route 224 (Pennsylvania) |
|
Eastern Terminus: Northern junction of PA 18 and BUS US 422 in downtown New Castle Length: 10 miles County: Lawrence Routing: US 224's brief jaunt into the Keystone State begins at the Ohio State Line west of Edinburg. The U.S. highway follows generally parallel to the south banks of the Mahoning River through the southern PA 551 junction at Edinburg. Heading northeasterly now, US 224 duplexes with PA 551 briefly in crossing the Mahoning River via a truss bridge. After PA 551 splits, US 224 bends to the east-southeast, and arrives at an interchange with the US 422/PA 60 (future I-376) western freeway bypass of New Castle. Entering into the city of New Castle via State St., US 224 is joined by BUS US 422 at the Sampson St. intersection. The two routes, going east, cross the Shenango River, and then intersect PA 18/Jefferson St. in downtown. US 224 comes to an end at this point, and BUS US 422 continues by turning south onto PA 18.
