Interstate 79 (Pennsylvania)

Southern Entrance: West Virginia State Line, south of Mount Morris

Northern Terminus: PA 5/PA 290 interchange in Erie, where I-79 transitions into Bayfront Pkwy.

Length: 183 miles

Counties: Greene, Washington, Allegheny, Butler, Lawrence, Mercer, Crawford, Erie

Routing: I-79 enters Pennsylvania from West Virginia near Mount Morris.  This four-lane freeway goes north past Morrisville on its way to the Washington area, north of which it briefly duplexes with I-70.  I-79 resumes a northerly trek after departing I-70, heading into the Greater Pittsburgh area.  While I-279 heads into downtown Pittsburgh and back to I-79 north of there, I-79 itself passes to the west of downtown.  Northwest of Pittsburgh, I-79 meets I-76/Pennsylvania Turnpike.  I-79 continues northerly, generally 20 miles to the east of the Ohio State Line.  I-79 meets I-80 outside of Mercer, then heads north past Meadville and up to I-90 near Erie.  I-79 heads into Erie, and comes to an end at the PA 5/PA 290 interchange, where it becomes Bayfront Pkwy.
