Ohio Route 38

Northern Terminus: OH 31, at its Southern Terminus in downtown Marysville

Length: 53.15 miles

Counties: Fayette, Madison, Union

Routing: OH 38 commences at the US 62/OH 3 duplex in Washington Court House.  The highway heads northeasterly through northern Fayette County, generally paralleling US 62/OH 3 until it gets to Bloomingburg, where, upon intersecting OH 238, OH 38 turns northwesterly.  OH 38 meets I-71 at its Exit 75, then crosses into Madison County, and passes into Midway, where it meets OH 323.  From Midway, OH 38 heads northerly into the county seat of Madison County, London.  After intersecting a menagerie of routes in downtown, OH 38 departs to the north, intersecting US 40, then crossing over I-70 (without a direct connection) en route to entering into Madison County.  Following an intersection with OH 161, OH 38 continues northerly into Marysville, where the state route comes to an end in downtown, at an intersection that double as the starting point of OH 31 in the northbound direction.
 

US 62 and OH 3 directional signs with TO US 35 trailblazer and erroneous OH 38 shield facing OH 38 South at the back of the intersection where it meets US 62/OH 3.  This is indeed an erroneous OH 38 shield because this intersection, in fact, marks OH 38's Southern Terminus!  Instead of a right arrow plate beneath the OH 38 marker, there should be an END plate above it.

Sign goof alert: Errant US 38 shield on OH 38 South just after its junction with OH 736 in Marysville.  Ohio, it seems, more than any other state, has a knack with erecting the wrong type of shield for a highway (a U.S. shield for an Ohio route, or an Ohio shield for a U.S. route).  In fact, in this case, Aaron reports that there is a like US 38 shield on the northbound side of OH 38 after OH 736!
