Ohio Route 278

Southern Terminus: US 50, 3 miles southeast of Zaleski

Northern Terminus: OH 595, 5 miles northwest of Nelsonville

Length: 27.61 miles

Counties: Vinton, Hocking, Athens

Routing: OH 278 begins at US 50 in eastern Vinton County.  The state route heads northwesterly into Zaleski, where it meets OH 677.  From there, OH 278 heads northeasterly through Zaleski State Forest and Lake Hope State Park, on its way into southeastern Hocking County, and a brief duplex with OH 56.  Next, OH 278 heads northerly, but then starts to turn to the east, and ducks into Athens County, where the highway parallels US 33 for a distance before finally intersecting the U.S. route in the western part of Nelsonville.  Departing northerly out of Nelsonville, OH 278 re-enters Hocking County, turns northwesterly when it hits the hamlet of Carbon Hill, and comes to an end as it arrives at a T-intersection with OH 595.
