Interstate 280 (Ohio)

Southern Terminus: Junction of I-80/I-90/Ohio Turnpike and OH 420 (Exit 64), a double-trumpet interchange 4 miles southeast of Walbridge

Northern Terminus: I-75 (Exit 208), at a directional "Y" interchange in northeastern Toledo, just 3 miles south of the Michigan State Line

Length: 12.43 miles

Counties: Wood, Lucas

Routing: I-280 runs north-south through the eastern part of the Toledo vicinity, and serves as an important link for travelers heading from southeast Michigan, southwest Ontario and points north from each locale to Cleveland, Pittsburgh and other points east and southeast.  The Interstate begins at Exit 71 off of I-80/I-90/Ohio Turnpike, continuing north from where OH 420 comes to an end.  I-280 goes northerly past Walbridge and into Northwood.  Crossing from Wood County into Lucas County, I-280 passes through Oregon, and an interchange with OH 2, where the freeway widens from four to six lanes.  The Interstate then crosses the Maumee River and surrounding area via the new Veterans' Glass City Skyway.  North of the cable-stayed bridge, I-280 intersects OH 25 prior to coming to an end at I-75's Exit 208, just 3 miles away from the Michigan State Line.

Overhead 1 mile advance exit sign for OH 65/Front St. (Exit 9) on I-280 North, situated in front of the OH 2/Navarre Ave. overpass.  From OH 2 north to I-75, in tandem with construction of the Veterans' Glass City Skyway, I-280 was widened from four to six lanes between 2002 and 2007.  As a part of this, new "tubular" style gantries and half-gantries, commonly used in the Southwestern U.S. but not so much in this part of the country, were installed to support overhead signage along this stretch of the freeway.

Overhead 0.5 mile advanced guide signage for the OH 65/Front St. interchange (Exit 9) on I-280 North.  OH 65 follows the former routing across the Craig Memorial Drawbridge that the Interstate took before the Veterans' Memorial Glass City Skyway opened in 2007.

Overhead guide signage identifying that the Port Authority Docks are accessible via Exit 9.  It's interesting that signage for the Port Authority Docks is not somehow incorporated into the signage for OH 65/Front St.

View looking southerly along the approach to the cable-stayed bridge that carries I-280 over the Maumee River and the nearby vicinity.  These wintertime photos of this structure don't really do it justice...both the skyway and the City of Toledo are much more photogenic during the summertime than in the middle of January.

I-280 South signage for the OH 25 interchange (Exit 11).  The pull-through signage at this interchange uses the Ohio Turnpike in lieu of a control city.  Typically, Cleveland is used as the southbound control city along I-280.

Sign gantry on I-280 at the Manhattan Blvd. interchange (Exit 12).  Just before the Manhattan Blvd. overpass in the background, the leftmost lane will split off for I-75 South.  Most traffic is bound for I-75 North, so the right two lanes are accessible for that maneuver.  Note that this signage for I-75 South also denotes I-475, which I-75 meets 3 miles to the southwest of the I-280 interchange.  Also, note that there is no control destination for I-75 South, while Detroit is used for I-75 North.

Final sign gantry for I-280 North, as it comes to an end with the split of the ramps to I-75 South and I-75 North, respectively, immediately prior to the Manhattan Blvd. overpass.  Note that, unlike the previous sign for I-75 South, this one does not include a TO I-475 reference.
