Northbound view of the northern end of United States Highway 62.  US-62 starts its journey across the US of A at the Mexico border in El Paso Texas before traveling 2,248 miles to meet Route 104 in New York.  US-62 ends just a few hundred yards north of the Rainbow International Bridge which links Niagara Falls New York to Niagara Falls Canada.  US-62 has the unique distinction of having both its termini at International Crossings.  Since the Interstate era, few US highways still have that distinction.

Northerly view approaching Mile Strip Road.  Note how quickly US-62 narrows down to a two-lane highway past this large intersection.  US-62 is far from an efficient route into Buffalo or Niagara Falls from this junction.  Motorists looking for a fast way into Buffalo or Niagara from this junction would best head over to either I-90 to the east, or NY-5 to the west.

Approaching the Mile Strip Road intersection is this overhead warning sign.  The Buffalo Skyway is one of the principal routes leading into Downtown from the South.  Like most Skyway bridges though it is susceptible to closure during periods of high winds and inclimate weather.  Buffalo is often dealt severe winter storms because of its location at the tail edge of Lake Erie.

View looking northerly approaching the US-20 junction.  US-20 darts around the southeast side of the Buffalo metro area without much in the way of a slowdown.

View looking northerly as US-62 passes overtop of Eighteen Mile Creek.  US-62 crosses the Eighteen Mile Creek on a modern concrete and steel monolith.  I could find little evidence of an old truss bridge for which the highway would have originally crossed upon.  There are a fair amount of old truss bridges left through the Western part of New York State.  Far more than remain in neighbouring Ontario.

Southbound advanced junction assembly denoting the US-62/Route-394 junction.  Look at how tall this signage assembly stands -- it is actually a tad ridiculous to think that any passing motorist could possibly read that much information approaching such an assembly at 55mph.

View looking northerly towards Buffalo along US-62 from the Route 394 junction.  The terrain that US-62 passes through on its journey through the extreme western part of New York State is somewhat subdued to a lot of what is found within the Southern-Tier.  When I drove this highway back in 2007, I was a little bit disappointed in the landscapes that I found along US-62 especially compared to some of the vistas that are available to motorists traversing the highways to the southeast of Buffalo.

Southerly view at the Route 394 junction.  As is evident in the photo, travelers heading south down US-62 must hang-a-right at this intersection.  There are surprisingly many turns like this along US-62.  I get the impression it was never a very important highway.

Close-up of the US-62/Route 394 reassurance marker just south of the junction.  Interesting that US-62 is shown to the right of the 394 shield in my opinion.
