U.S. Route 15 (New York)

Southern Entrance: Pennsylvania State Line, 1 mile south of Lindley

Northern Terminus: I-86/NY 17 (Exit 44 A), at a semi-directional "Y" interchange in Painted Post

Length: 12.59 miles

County: Steuben

Routing: US 15 enters into the Empire State from Pennsylvania south of Lindley, transitioning from a four-lane freeway into a two-lane highway.  The U.S. route maintains a two-lane cross-section for approximately 5 miles before widening back into a four-lane freeway from Presho up to its endpoint at I-86/NY 17 in Painted Post.  Prior to construction of I-390 in the 1970s, US 15 continued northerly along what is now NY 15 into Rochester.  Prior to 2009, NY 15 was in fact routed from US 15's Northern Terminus along I-86/NY 17 and I-390 before splitting off near Wayland.  In 2009, NY 15 was truncated to that interchange.

In the fall of 2008, a new stretch of four-lane US 15 freeway opened, splitting off from the two-lane alignment of US 15 near Lindley and running into Pennsylvania, connecting with the former northern end of freeway at PA 287 south of Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania.  This photo shows the point where the two-lane highway widens out, approximately 1 mile north of the state line.
