Western Terminus: I-90/New York Thruway (Exit 39), at a double-trumpet interchange 3 miles southeast of Baldwinsville where I-690 becomes NY 690

Eastern Terminus: I-481 (Exit 4) in East Syracuse

Length: 14.19 miles

County: Onondaga

Routing: I-690 begins at the junction of I-90/New York Thruway and NY 690 southeast of Baldwinsville, and provides direct access from the western suburbs into downtown Syracuse, where the Interstate meets I-81.  Continuing east into East Syracuse, I-690 comes to an end where it meets I-481.

I-690's Western Terminus is at I-90/New York Thruway, at a double-trumpet interchange (Exit 39).  NY 690 continues northwesterly as a four-lane freeway toward Baldwinsville after I-690 terminates.

Sign gantry on WB John Glenn Blvd. with signage for the upcoming junction with I-690.  The first ramp, 0.25 mile ahead, links the western end of John Glenn Blvd. with I-690 West, which connects to I-90/New York Thruway.  After the second ramp departs for I-690 East 0.5 mile ahead, traffic defaults onto the beginning of NY 48 North.

Overhead exit only sign for State Fair Blvd. (Exit 5) on I-690 East.  The right lane, which defaults to State Fair Blvd. at the upcoming interchange, was added after the John Glenn Blvd. interchange 0.5 mile back from this location.

Sign truss with three-lane I-690 East pull-through sign and exit sign for State Fair Blvd. (Exit 5).  The State Fair Blvd. exit off of I-690 is a four-ramp interchange, with diamond ramps on the north side, and parclo-B ramps on the south side.

Sign gantry on I-690 East at the NY 297 interchange (Exit 7) featuring three-lane pull-through sign for Syracuse-bound traffic on the Interstate and exit only sign for NY 297.  This is the primary interchange off of I-690 for the New York State Fairgrounds

Overhead two-lane I-690 East pull-through signage and exit only signs for West St. (Exit 11) and W. Genesee St. (Exit 12), affixed to sign truss spanning the entire width of I-690, and facing I-690 East in advance of the divergence of the ramp that serves two separate exits.  Though not noted on the signage, W. Genesee St. is also NY 5 through this area.

Sign truss on I-690 East at the divergence of the exit ramp to I-81 South in downtown Syracuse.  Note the dual pull-through signs for I-690 East on this gantry.  The left one is for traffic coming in from I-81 South getting ready to merge onto I-690 East.  There is no exit number for the I-81 interchange off of I-690.  In addition, there is no direct access from I-690 East to I-81 North.  Motorists looking to make this connection are advised to use NY 298 East.

Shield assembly featuring I-690 West, I-690 East and TO I-481 shields on NB Bridge St. in advance of the four-ramp parclo AB-2 interchange that connects Bridge St. with I-690.  This interchange is the last one for I-690 in the eastbound direction prior to its junction with I-481, so TO I-481 trailblazers appear in both directions of Bridge St. prior to the ramp to I-690 East.
