Trans-Canada Route 16 (New Brunswick)

Western Terminus: Junction Trans-Canada Route 2, Aulac.

Eastern Entrance: Prince Edward Island via the Confederation Bridge.  Continues as Trans-Canada Highway 1 in Prince Edward Island..

Counties: Westmorland.

Routing: Route 16 passes northeasterly from Route 2 at Aulac through Westmorland County through the Route 15 roundabout to Confederation Bridge at Cape Tormentine.  Route 16 continues across Confederation bridge into Prince Edward Island where it becomes Trans-Canada Highway 1.

Overhead signage affixed to the Route 2 overpass as Highway 16 passes underneath of the Trans-Canada Highway.  Straight ahead at this interchange is Aulac, and the Cumberland Basin.

Advanced guide signage for the Trans-Canada Highway 2 interchange.  This interchange is the eastern-most in New Brunswick along Route 2, and is located roughly 2 km from the Nova Scotia Boundary.

Highway 16 has surprisingly little on it.  It does, however, have a posted 100km/h speed limit.  In Ontario, where I am from, you would never see a two-lane undivided highway with a 100km/h limit -- you would however see drivers traveling near that speed.

View looking south approaching the roundabout.  This roundabout is huge, and is probably surprisingly old.  Modern roundabouts are a lot smaller in diameter than this traffic circle to reduce vehicle speed within the circular roadway.

Dangerous Goods must report to the weigh station situated at Exit 47.  There is a similar weigh station on the PEI side of the bridge as well.

Exit 47 takes traffic to Route 955 and Cape Tormentine.  Cape Tormentine was the site of the ferry service that linked New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island prior to the completion of Confederation Bridge.

Confederation Bridge is finally in view -- New Brunswick's final interchange along Route 16 is situated immediately before the western abutment of the bridge.

Easterly view at Exit 51 along Route 16.  Confederation Bridge is straight ahead.  There is no toll from New Brunswick to PEI -- all tolls are collected on outbound movements.
