Facing north along US 31 from the eastern M-72 junction in Acme.   Beyond the M-72 Junction at Acme, US 31 resumes its northerly trek towards Mackinaw City.  The five-lane cross-section seen here ends a short distance to the north of the eastern M-72 intersection, just after the main entrance to the Grand Traverse Resort.

A former alignment of US 31 between Acme and Elk Rapids. The old road meets current US 31 in the background. Presumably, the highway was relocated in order to bypass a rather sharp curve located on the old road alignment.

Facing north along US 31 towards Charlevoix from just north of the Antrim-Charlevoix County Line.  This section of US 31 has concurrent back-to-back passing lanes, which essentially results in an undivided four-lane highway cross section.

Two northbound views of US 31 as it rounds the curve at the Vratinina Rd. intersection en route to Charlevoix.  This particular section of US 31 is paved with concrete.  Most sections of US 31 through this portion of Michigan are paved with an asphalt surface.

Large overhead guide sign on US 31 South preceding the C-81 intersection in Bay View.  There are two southbound lanes entering into the intersection.  The guide sign denotes that traffic looking to continue on US 31 South must utilize the right lane.  As the other overhead sign notes, the left lane becomes a default left-turn lane for C-81 South.

These two photos show the view looking north along US 31 just north of Ringler Rd., not too far to the south of Pellston.  The use of center-line rumble strips are prevalent on this section of US 31.  This section of US 31 also has intermittent rumble strips along the edges of the traveled laneways.

Facing north along US 31 at the beginning of the divided highway approaching the I-75 Interchange near Mackinaw City. US 31 is a four-lane divided highway for about 0.25 mile before reaching the I-75.  From this point southerly to Petoskey, US 31 is primarily a two-lane undivided highway.

First US 31 South reassurance marker, located just southwest of the Mackinaw Hwy. (Old US 31) intersection.  Mackinaw Hwy. crosses US 31 less than 0.25 mile southwest of I-75.  US 31, meanwhile, narrows down to two lanes just ahead.

View of the two US 31 carriageways from the median on the approach to the I-75 Interchange near Mackinaw City.  The southbound (left) carriageway diverges from the southbound lanes of I-75 just beyond this curve.  The northbound (right) US 31 lanes cross a bridge over I-75 before the lanes merge with the freeway.

US 31's lengthy trek, which began in Spanish Fort, Alabama, near Mobile, comes to an end at I-75 south of Mackinaw City.  The US 31 ENDS assembly shown here appears prior to the merge of US 31 North into I-75 North.
