Berrien County Benton Township	Sign truss featuring warning sign denoting the end of the left lane in 0.5 mile, two-lane pull-through sign for I-94 East and the second of two exit signs for I-196/US 31 North (Exit 34) on I-94 East at the interchange that doubles as both the Southern Terminus of I-196, and the point where US 31 jumps off of I-94 (coming in from the west), and joins I-196 up the Lake Michigan coast, heading toward Holland.

Michigan's southernmost east-west Interstate Highway, I-94 continues east to Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Jackson, Ann Arbor, Detroit and, ultimately, Port Huron. Click here for I-94 East images.
Berrien County Benton Township	Sign gantry with I-94 East and I-94 West/US 31 South lane-distribution signs at I-196's Southern Terminus. Eventually, US 31 will continue onto its own freeway alignment via I-94, connecting at the eastern BL I-94 interchange. Presently, there is a one-mile gap in the US 31 freeway, resulting in a very awkward jog via I-94 and Napier Ave.

Van Buren County South Haven Township	Bridge-mounted Clearview exit sign for M-140 (Exit 18) on I-196/US 31 South, affixed to the M-140 overpass. Michigan is very good at marking lower speed exit ramps well in advance of the interchange.

Van Buren County South Haven Township	View of I-196/US 31, looking south from the M-43 overpass. Surprisingly, M-43, which passes over I-196/US 31 at I-196's mile marker 19, does not have a direct connection with the freeway. Access between I-196/US 31 and M-43 is provided via BL I-196, which meets the freeway at the M-140 interchange.

Allegan County Casco Township	This long view of I-196/US 31 is seen facing southward from the BL I-196/North Shore Dr. overpass near South Haven. North Shore Dr., the northern South Haven BL I-196 interchange, is I-196's Exit 22, a diamond interchange.
