Eastern Terminus: M-43, at a T-intersection west of Hastings

Length: 16.88 miles

Counties: Allegan, Barry

Routing: M-179 follows what was the former portion of County Designated Highway A-42 east of US 131, prior to transfer of that stretch of A-42 from Allegan and Barry Counties to M.D.O.T. in 1998.  M-179 runs from US 131's Exit 61 near Bradley to M-43 2 miles west of Hastings, and 0.25 mile west of M-37.

Because there are no communities of any decent size along the entire length of M-179, this distance sign on M-179 West just after the M-43 intersection reflects how far it is to the ultimate destination of the state highway: US 131, which is 17 miles ahead.

TO M-37 trailblazer and M-43 shield, each atop destination sign for Hastings and Kalamazoo, at the back of the T-intersection marking M-179's Eastern Terminus.  M-43's western junction with M-37 is just 0.25 mile to the east of here.
