Provincial Trunk Highways |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Manitoba was the last province in Canada to develop a trunk highway system. Since its inception in 1925, the system has grown, including the addition and changing of many routes. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Winnipeg Metro Routes | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Metropolitan Winnipeg introduced the Metro Route system in the late 1960's, prior to Unicity, the amalgamation of many suburban cities and municipalities into the City of Winnipeg. Odd-numbered routes run east-west and even-numbered routes run north-south, the exact opposite of the U.S. system, and the route system curiously often excludes provincial highways when multiplexed, adding still more confusion for visitors. One of the primary reasons given as justification for the route system was, ironically, to help out-of-town visitors. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
