Routing: US 231, Indiana's longest highway, crosses the Ohio River from Kentucky into Indiana via the William Natcher Bridge near Rockport. US 231 heads northerly, meeting I-64 near Dale. From there, US 231 continues north through Huntingburg, Jasper and Loogootee. After passing along the west side of the Crane Naval Weapons Support Center, US 231 heads to Bloomfield, turns west briefly, then resumes a northerly trend to the IN 67 junction. US 231 and IN 67 duplex going northeasterly to north of Spencer, where the two routes split, and US 231 heads northerly again, intersecting I-70 north of Cloverdale. The U.S. highway continues northerly through Greencastle and Crawfordsville, north of which US 231 hits I-74. Further north, US 231 passes through the western portion of Lafayette, departs the city along a duplex with US 52, then turns north, stair-stepping alongside I-65 through southwestern White and southern Jasper Counties (in part with US 24). The U.S. route next heads due north for a stretch, passing through Rensselaer, then jogging west briefly in a duplex with IN 10 to near Demotte, before turning north again. At Hebron, US 231 turns northwesterly, crossing I-65, and entering into Crown Point. Finally, US 231 turns west, and comes to an end where it meets US 41 south of St. John.
