Centre - U.S. Route 395 directional sign at the end of U.S. Route 6 in Bishop. Up until the 1960s, U.S. Route 6 continued south from Bishop towards Los Angeles concurrently with U.S. Route 395. U.S. Route 6 was truncated at Bishop during the massive California route restructuring of the 1960s.

Left - Facing south along U.S. Route 395 at Conway Summit. This four-lane highway is already on its steep descent from the mountain pass to the valley floor below. Note the widened centreline of the highway which contains an asphalt rumble strip.
