Left - Sheffield Drive Underpass at the northbound lanes of U.S. Route 101. There is no underpass below the southbound lanes, as the ramps which connect Sheffield Drive to the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 101 are situated in the highway median. The ramps which connect to northbound U.S. Route 101 are in a standard diamond configuration, and are situated on the right-hand side of the interchange.

Right - Close-up of the internal "reverse diamond" ramps in the middle of U.S. Route 101 at the Sheffield Drive Interchange. Traffic enters and exits the southbound freeway from the left. The through lanes of U.S. Route 101 South can be seen off to the right.

Left - Traffic from Sheffield Drive merges into the freeway from the left. This unusual diamond interchange design is actually the first of two diamond interchanges on U.S. Route 101 in the Santa Barbara area which employs left-hand merges and diverges. The nearby Cabrillo Drive Interchange in Santa Barbara is a diamond interchange with three internal "median" ramps.

Left - Enormous trees dwarf traffic on U.S. Route 101 through Montecito. This tree-lined freeway is one of the most pleasant and relaxing divided highways in California on which to drive. This freeway also offers motorists many sweeping vistas of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains.
