Left - Facing south along the Harbor Freeway near the Slauson Avenue Interchange. The section of Interstate 110 from Slauson Avenue to a point just south of the Santa Monica Freeway (Interstate 10) Interchange was recently reconstructed as a dual-level freeway. The upper level consists of four High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) carpool lanes (two lanes in each direction) while the general use lanes below consist of eight lanes (four lanes in each direction).

Right - The innermost HOV carpool lane on the northbound Harbor Freeway is intended for through traffic only, while the outermost HOV carpool lane is intended to carry short distance traffic. The outermost lane also serves as a merge and diverge lane for traffic wishing to enter or exit the HOV facility. Note the solid white line at left, which discourages traffic in the through lane from exiting the HOV facility at this transfer.

Left - The Harbor Freeway was constructed with a bus rapid transit facility within the freeway median. Buses utilize the dual HOV carpool lanes between stations, but have their own lane approaching all transit stations. The bus-only lane which leads to the Slauson Avenue Station departs from the freeway on the left.

Centre - Approaching the Slauson Avenue Interchange on the northbound Harbor Freeway (Interstate 110). The pedestrian bridge in the background connects the platforms of the Slauson Avenue bus rapid transit station to a commuter parking lot.

Right - Approaching the end of the northbound Interstate 110 HOV carpool lanes near Jefferson Boulevard. From this point, carpool vehicles can exit to 39th Street, Adams Boulevard and Figueroa Street. However, northbound through traffic must re-enter the general use lanes of Interstate 110.

Left - The elevated freeway structure carrying the northbound HOV carpool lanes ends rather abruptly just before the West 28th Street Overpass. However, the elevated structure has been designed in such a way that the HOV carpool lanes could be extended north to connect to the Santa Monica Freeway in the future.

Centre - Bumper-to-bumper traffic on the northbound Harbor Freeway (Interstate 110) approaching the Santa Monica Freeway (Interstate 10) Interchange. This section of the Harbor Freeway approaching Downtown Los Angeles is notorious for traffic congestion.
